The School The ancient Chinese sage, Lao Tzu, described nature as the ultimate source of all, and the Tao as living in a state of complete harmony with nature. Our teacher's teacher, Master Cheng Man Ch'ing was extraordinary because he understood this, not only as an intellectual concept but also as an ongoing experience. He achieved this by his comprehension of the Chinese Classics (Lao Tzu, Confucius, the I'Ching, and the concepts of yin/yang and the five elements) which describe the natural laws, and by his practice of T'ai Chi. The smooth, relaxed movements of T'ai Chi bypass the preoccupations of our thinking mind to provide a direct experience of being in harmony with nature. The result is a noticeable improvement in our peace of mind, outlook, mental clarity, health, and enjoyment of life. Our complete program has nine levels of training, starting with the Beginning Form and progressing through Fundamentals, Intermediate Form, Push Hands, our Apprenticeship Program (learning to teach), Sword Form, and so on. Although we do not teach the Chinese Classics (there is too wide a language and cultural gap for this to be practical), the Arica meditation work, available through our school, provides this function in a manner appropriate to our culture. All STCC teachers participate in our extensive, ongoing Apprenticeship Training in how to teach using the team teaching method developed by our founder, Professor Patrick Watson. Students can feel confident that their study will be safe, enjoyable, professionally taught, and will take them as far as they choose to go. The first series of Beginning Form classes offered by STCC in Seattle started in January, 2005. We plan to teach the full curriculum of the School of T'ai Chi Chuan as students advance and become ready. DavidGoodell@TaiChiSeattle.com © TaiChi Seattle All Rights Reserved |
